About

Mark Rogers with his dogI’m Mark Rogers, a professional pet photographer based in San Francisco where I live with my two best friends: an extremely tolerant and caring wife who encourages and supports me in this awesome, crazy career and a highly energetic and industrious little Corgi-Jack Russell mix named Bizzy.

My style is very contemporary and candid with a focus on capturing animals’ individuality and uniqueness with a few dashes of humor and action thrown in for good measure.  I work on location at places like beaches, parks and homes where pets feel comfortable and can act like themselves. I tend to avoid studio settings where I think pets end up looking like the subjects of American Gothic (no offense to Grant Wood intended)

I got my start in pet photography 9 years ago when I began photographing protective custody dogs in the Give a Dog a Bone (GADAB) program based out of San Francisco’s municipal animal shelter. In 2006, after enough people told me my shots were different and better than what they’d seen before, I started Mark Rogers Photography. Since then I’ve stayed actively involved with rescue organizations and animal welfare groups and am the primary photographer for Pet Food Express’s popular My Mutt program which promotes animal rescue groups all over Northern California.

I work with private clients as well as commercial ones and my pet photography has appeared in a variety of books and magazine, including the SPCA’s award-winning Our Animals. I’ve been named Best Bay Area Pet Photographer in both SFGate (2008-2010)and Bay Woof (2009) and also received the grand prize in pet photography by American Humane in 2009. Since 2008, I’ve hosted a popular photo caption contest on Dogster’s For the Love of Dog blog.
