FAQs
Most people have lots of questions when it comes to getting their pets photographed? Here are the most common ones I hear. If your question isn’t covered feel free to get in touch with me and I can answer pretty much anything you ask (unless it pertains to quantum physics).
Do you work out of a studio?
I prefer to work on location — either at your home, a park or a beach. I find I get better results this way since the pets are comfortable and happy to be there as opposed to in a strange indoor place with lots of bright lights. I do have an outdoor studio at my home that’s landscaped for pets and is completely fenced in. It’s got lots of interesting backgrounds and scenery and works great if you don’t have a place in mind.
Can we do this at my house?
Yup. No problem. I usually photograph cats, bunnies and pocket pets where they live and am also happy to do this for dogs that prefer hanging out at home.
What locations do you recommend?
I’m most familiar with places in and around San Francisco and do a lot of shoots at Fort Funston, Crissy Field, Golden Gate Park, Stern Grove and Ocean Beach. In the east bay I like Point Isabel & Lake Temescal Regional Park. In Marin, Bayfront Park is nice.
Can I be in the photos or is this pets only? What if I have more than one pet?
It’s up to you. I photograph people all the time so I’m happy to include you or your family in the session and can also accommodate multiple pets as long as they get along together. There is an additional charge of $35 per subject (human or animal) for groups larger than four.
How does this work? What happens during a session?
First and foremost, be ready to have a good time. These sessions are always a lot of fun and you should come prepared to laugh a lot. I like to keep things loose and informal so everyone’s at ease and acting like themselves. We’ll chat in advance about any sort of particular shots you’re after, pick a location and date and that’s about as structured as it gets. Pets will be pets and often do whatever they want to do so I tend to just be there to capture whatever happens. When you see the final results, though, you can be guaranteed three things: you’ll laugh, you’ll have a hard time picking your favorite shot, and you’ll have a permanent record of your furry best friend (and you) enjoying yourselves.
How about after we’re done? When do I get the goods?
A week to ten days after we meet I’ll post an initial sneak peek up to my blog so you can see how the session went and brag to all your friends about how you really do have the cutest pet in the universe and can prove it now. After another week I’ll complete my edits and put all the final proofs into a private online gallery for you which we can review together if you wish and from there you can pick out the prints you want.
What do I get out of this? What about prints? How about stuff I can use on facebook or in email?
All my sessions come with a credit that you can apply toward prints. I can produce prints with a variety of finishes and in virtually all shapes and sizes from wallet, 4×6 all the way up to 40×60 inches. In addition to prints I can also memorialize your favorite shots on fabulous print canvases or mounted prints that pop off the wall and turn your best friend into a real piece of art.
I’ll give you low-resolution versions of all the final proofs as part of the deal and you can use these to send around in email, post on Facebook or use as screensavers.
If you want a dvd of all the high-res files to make your own prints I can make one for you at additional cost.
When can we do this? Do you work on weekends?
I schedule sessions during the week and on weekends (weekends fill up fast, though). Outdoor sessions are either first thing in the morning or in the late afternoon/early evening so we get the best light. My schedule gets progressively busier starting in summer and is at its peak from November through December so plan those holiday cards early!
