FAQs
Most people have a lot of questions before they get photographed and I’ve listed a lot of the common ones below. If your particular query isn’t covered, contact me.
Where’s your studio?
I work on location — at your home or a place we decide upon together like a park, a beach or your place of business. I find I get less staged-looking results this way.
I have pets? Can they be in this, too?
I love pets and actually spend the majority of my photographic time working with them. I’ll gladly include pets in your session as long as they get along with everyone involved. If there are more than 4 pets or people combined there is an additional charge of $35 per subject.
What do I wear?
I tell folks to dress neutrally — no strong patterns or really bright, intense colors. Earth tones and basic black and white work out fine. If there’s a a few people in the shots make sure you’re all not wearing the same or similar color combinations.
I hate being photographed? How will you make me look good?
I still have nightmares myself about those elementary school photos in front of the fake bookcase or at the department store studio with the carpet-cube seat. My goal is to provide an experience and setting exactly opposite of those chambers of photographic horror. I pride myself at putting folks at ease during sessions. I don’t just show up with cameras blazing. We’ll spend a little time getting used to each other and figuring out what’s going to look best. The important thing is for you to feel relaxed and comfortable and I’ll do my best to make that happen.
How does this work? What happens during a session?
Be ready to have a good time. My sessions are loose and informal so everyone can relax and look like themselves. We’ll chat in advance about any sort of particular shots you’re after, pick a location and date and that’s about as formal as it gets. I’ll snap a lot of shots — some head on, some on the sly but you’ll like what you see afterward.
How about after we’re done? When do I get to see everything?
A week to ten days after the session I’ll either send you a sneak peak so you can see how the session went. A week or two later, depending on the time of year, I’ll finish my edits and post the final proofs to a private online gallery which we can review together if you wish and from there you can pick out the prints you want.
Speaking of prints…
All my sessions come with a credit that you can apply toward prints. I can produce prints with a variety of finishes and in virtually all shapes and sizes from wallet, 4×6 all the way up to 40×60 inches. In addition to prints I can also memorialize your favorite shots on fabulous print canvases or mounted prints that pop off the wall and turn your best friend into a real piece of art.
I’ll give you low-resolution versions of all the final proofs as part of the deal and you can use these to send around in email, post on Facebook or use as screensavers.
If you want a cd or dvd of all the high-res files to make your own prints I’m happy to make one for you at additional cost.
When can we do this? Do you work on weekends?
What’s your schedule? I work during the week and on weekends and can generally accommodate most schedules. The key is to not feel rushed — you don’t want to look all stressed out in your photos. For outdoor sessions I schedule my sessions either first thing in the morning (not many takers on this but if you’re game, so am I) or in the late afternoon or early evening for the best light conditions.
